Skills Bootcamps

A Skills Bootcamp may be the next step toward a better job for you if you’re aged 19+ and want to move into another industry or advance in your current industry. These Bootcamps are free and flexible programs that last up to 16 weeks and provide you the opportunity to acquire skills employers want.

Who are these Bootcamps for?

Whether you’re looking to advance in your current field or discover a new one, a Skills Bootcamp could help you get there. These adaptable courses concentrate on the skills that are in demand in your region and result in a guaranteed job interview, providing you with a clear route from learning to improved employment.

A Skills Bootcamp may be for you if you:

  • Want to progress in your current sector
  • Want to change jobs or explore a new industry
  • Are currently employed or self-employed
  • Have been recently unemployed

What types of courses are available?

Employers, suppliers, and authorities work together to create Skills Bootcamps in local regions to help fill skill gaps and job vacancies.

There are currently over 100 courses available in:

  • Digital skills – such as data analytics, software development or digital marketing
  • Technical skills – like construction, engineering or manufacturing
  • Green skills – including solar energy and agriculture technology
  • HGV driving – both for beginners and for those looking to upgrade their current HGV licence

Skills Bootcamps are short courses of 16 weeks or less that are designed to be flexible, allowing you to fast-track your skills on your own time, fitting leanring around other commitments. Completing a Skills Bootcamp leads to a guaranteed job interview with a local employer, helping you in getting a better job.

Eligibility

To take part in a Skills Bootcamp, you:

  • Must be aged 19+
  • Must live in England
  • Must be employed, self-employed, have recently become unemployed or are returning to work after a break

Most Skills Bootcamps do not require any previous expertise in the field; all that is needed is a thorough understanding of English and a desire to learn new skills. Some Skills Bootcamps, however, may have additional requirements, such as previously held educational qualifications or previous industry experience.

  • Find a Skills Bootcamp on gov.uk
  • Visit the provider’s website of your chosen Skills Bootcamp
  • Apply directly with the course provider
  • Spaces for Skills Bootcamps are limited and participation will be at the discretion of the course provider

Our SEMLEP region

The South East Midlands is a region of strategic importance, linking the key economic hubs of Oxford, Cambridge and London to Birmingham.
